For The Love Of My Country & The People Who Live in It
Female Genital Mutilation
is an atrocity which destroys the lives of young girls who grow up to be women in physical agony, forever haunted by the violation of their bodies, which was imposed upon them by people who believe in ancient, distorted traditions.
You see, it is "custom" for a very young, female child to be loured in to a village hut by the very women who are and have been suffering this injustice just as much as the poor child now will face throughout its life. Using blunt, dirty, un-sanitized equipment, shards of glass, rocks or even finger nails, the girls have their private parts cut off internally under great duress, then, sewn back up together again, leaving the girl's entire life in tatters, both physically and mentally.
There is NO other reason for this practice, other than the wish to preserve power, ignite oppression and maintain control over the female population.
I cannot tell you, the extend of damage this horrendous practice has on the female psyche and body.
Please help me make it stop.
UNICEF estimated in 2016 that 200 million women living in 30 countries—27 African countries, Indonesia, Iraqi Kurdistan & Yemen—have undergone these procedures.
